Community Improvement

We awarded Green Space Transformations, a garden and grounds maintenance service, part of our Community Fund to support the Clear, Hold, Build initiative and help communities in Fishwick and St Matthews reclaim greenspaces.

Seeing an opportunity to work with younger tenants and residents to create greener spaces, we contacted Farringdon Park Youth Club to hear from young people about where they think we should plant tree saplings in the area.

During conversations with tenants at a community pop-up and Brookfield's Gateway2You session, we became aware of an excessive amount of dog foul on Ambleside Road. Listening to this feedback, we teamed up with the dog warden service and Blaze Youth Group from Ribbleton Parish to tackle the issue by spreading awareness of responsible pet ownership.

Our Engagement Team carried out a community walkabout with Councillor Naomih McMahon and a local PCSO to identify areas the community would like us to improve.

During a community pop up in Brookfield, tenants raised that fly-tipping and dog foul on the grassed areas of Hawkshead Road were a big issue. Listening to this feedback, we installed new fences to limit public access to the area.

Community Gateway’s Engagement and Communities Team teamed up with Year 6 pupils and staff from Ashton Primary School to take a closer look at the local area and explore how it could be improved.

During a community pop up on Gillet Street, tenants raised that the surrounding area is a hotspot for dog fouling. Tenants also told the team that the trees in the area seemed overgrown and were blocking out light and attracting anti-social behaviour.

While we were out in the community a tenant on Newark Place reported concerns to us about an area of communal greenspace behind their home that is accessible to the public.

Listening to what matters most to the community, we partnered with the King's Trust, who tackle youth unemployment and The Hub at St Bernards to deliver a two-week project to improve the condition of the local area.
