What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse is when someone behaves in an abusive or violent way towards another person, usually within the home.

Domestic abuse is defined as physical, psychological, sexual or financial violence that takes place within an intimate or family-type relationship and forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour. But domestic abuse doesn’t just stay at home - the impact on an someone's mental health and wellbeing, emotional and physical health, can come with them into other aspects of life.

We take reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously and will help you get the support you need. You can find out more about our approach in our Domestic Abuse Policy.
