Dawson and Aughton Walk Action Day

Following concerns about fly-tipping and waste being dumped in communal areas at Dawson and Aughton Walk, in Preston City Centre, our Environmental Services team reached out to colleagues in the Engagement team to take coordinated action.

The Tenancy Management team had also seen an increase in reports regarding fly tipping in the area.

In response, a multi-agency Action Day was organised to engage directly with tenants and residents, raise awareness about the impact of fly-tipping, and provide advice on how to report issues and safely dispose of waste. The event brought together colleagues from Community Gateway, alongside Preston City Council’s Neighbourhood Services and the Neighbourhood Policing team.

On the day, our teams spoke to tenants and residents and went door knocking alogside our partners    and set up the van as a central point where tenants could stop by to chat and raise concerns.

A number of important issues were reported and as a result of the action day:
  • Four bags of litter were collected
  • An abandoned motorbike was reported to Preston City Council
  • A fly-tipping incident and an abandoned building (linked to rough sleeping) were reported
  • A rough sleeper on CGA land was reported
  • A request was made to explore funding for fly-tipping awareness signs
  • Query was raised about a tree on CGA land posing a possible health and safety risk

We would like to thank all the tenants and residents who took the time to speak to us and share their concerns. Your feedback helps us take action to improve your communities and keep them clean and safe.
