Mental Health & Wellbeing Tips

We've put together a list of ways you can maintain your health and wellbeing during this difficult time, along with some useful links to local partners who can help. Give one or two of them and try and see how it makes you feel.

  • Limit your exposure to media/social media coverage of the Coronavirus. If you feel that certain sources are making you anxious or causing distress, reduce your time reading these accordingly.

  • Alternatively, get the information and latest updates you need from reputable sources such as GOV.UK NHS, Public Health England and World Health Organisation.
  • Use the GOV.UK website to get up to date advice about your benefits, employment, and finances.
  • Stay connected but stay home! Use apps, emails, social media, and video calls to stay in touch with friends, family, and colleagues.
  • If you aren't online, write letters, phone people or have a chat with a neighbour through the window.
  • Keep a routine or create a new one! It may help to make a timetable for yourself.
  • Spend time with those who live in your household but also respect each other's space and privacy.
  • Spend time with pets if you have them.
  • A good way to reconnect with people is checking if phone numbers and emails are up to date!
  • Arrange with others to read the same books or watch the same movie to talk about afterward.
  • If your home feels quiet, listen to a radio or TV chat show.
  • Stay active - try and do some form of exercise every day if you can. Here are some ideas from the NHS for different abilities.
  • If you have one and it is safe to do, sit in your garden for some fresh air and space. Alternatively, sitting on your doorstep can also help.
  • Position your main seating near to a window, so you can get natural light and lookout.
  • If possible, order some seeds or plants and make your own green space indoors.
  • Get organised - use this time to have a clear out or tidy of your home. Have a digital clear out of old files, pictures and emails.
  • Write down your worries or anything that is making you anxious or keep a diary.
