March Board Meeting

Our tenant Board Member recruitment campaign has been progressing very well, with lots of applications from interested tenants. It has been great to see that so many of you are keen to get involved and in joining our Board. The appointment process concludes in April and I am looking forward to welcoming new recruits to the Board in May.

At its last meeting in March, the Board reviewed a project undertaken by Gateway Central, our tenants’ committee, to develop our response to the Regulator of Social Housing’s consultation on introducing new tenant satisfaction measures.  This is a proposed new way of assessing how well social housing landlords in England are performing in providing good quality homes and services.  As a tenant-led housing association, it was crucial for us to understand whether our tenants felt the measures proposed would provide the right information to enable them to assess how well we are performing.  Community Gateway’s response has now been submitted to the Regulator and this will be considered along with other feedback before the final tenant satisfaction measures are launched next April.

The Board also approved the budget for 2022/23, which will enable CGA to continue investing in our existing homes and developing new homes, whilst also managing the pressures creating by inflation and increasing prices that we are all facing at the moment.

The Board also discussed the ‘chip pan amnesty’ we held in January, which saw 53 people exchange their old chip pans for a free deep fat fryer. It is so important to understand the dangers that chip pans pose in our homes. Another concern is that people do not test their own smoke alarms as regularly as they should and as such we will be running an awareness campaign on the importance of testing in our magazine, face to face events and online channels.

Best wishes,
