Looking after your garden
Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about your garden. As a Community Gateway tenant, it is one of your responsibilities to look after your garden. This includes ensuring hedges, bushes and grass are neat and well maintained and that your garden is kept clear of rubbish, scrap and household items.
Preston City Council Household Waste and Recycling Centres
Most rubbish can be disposed of for free at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre (the tip). You can find more information about bulky waste collection by visiting www.preston.gov.uk/bulkywaste. (Other Councils will have similar facilities.)
To dispose of garden waste regularly, such as grass and hedge cuttings, you can request a garden waste collection. You will need an annual subscription and a brown bin. To subscribe, visit www.preston.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
Alternatively, you can take your garden waste to the tip and dispose of it for free. The tip is still open during COVID-19 but do check online first. For more information, or to subscribe visit www.lancashire.gov.uk/waste-and-recycling.
Garden maintenance support
We understand that there will be circumstances where you may struggle to maintain your gardens, so there is help available. We provide support to customers who are struggling to keep on top of their garden and are unable to make other arrangements. Limited places are available for the 2021 season and eligibility criteria will be checked to ensure customers most in need of this service are supported. We also provide a rechargeable service for one-off garden jobs like hedge trimming, although there may be a delay in us providing this service during very busy periods, for example when our teams are cutting grass across the estates. We also provide free advice upon request to help customers learn or improve their gardening skills.
