Gateway’s first all-electric development

Last week we handed over the keys to our first development of all-electric homes in Brookfield, Preston.

The homes on Gisburn Road and Hawkshead Road are part of our ongoing commitment to building sustainable homes for life. All the houses are run entirely by electricity, resulting in lower carbon emissions and a healthier environment for its residents.

We worked alongside SJJ Contracts Ltd and Anderton Gables to deliver these first gas-free homes. Prior to the new homes being built, Gisburn Road was a former council depot and the land at Hawkshead Road was vacant space. As well as providing more much-needed homes for local people, the properties have given the area a new lease of life, along with extra parking spaces to be utilised by the surrounding neighbours.

All the homes have an air source heat pump, instead of boilers, plus underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators on the first floor. As an extra touch, the houses each have a brick bird box fitted into the wall at the back under the roofline. This is a maintenance free, integrated bird box which will provide a welcoming home for a variety of different sized birds.

Lee Garry Head of Asset Management at Community Gateway said:

“We are extremely excited about our first ever all-electric homes. Each time we launch a new development we look to improve our carbon footprint a step further, without compromising on quality or style. These gas-free homes are part of our commitment to improve the energy efficiency of our homes, providing a much-needed reduction in fuel bills for our tenants and part of our ambitions to make our homes carbon neutral by 2050.”
