CGA tenant celebrates 100th Birthday
CGA tenant, Alice Slater, celebrates her 100th Birthday today (8th April 2021).
Alice has lived at The Filberts, CGA’s sheltered scheme since 1994. Alice said:
“I am very happy with my home and love having my own space, but I know there is help available if I need it.”
Alice is celebrating her birthday with her two daughters - her son was also planning to visit her from Australia but was unable to due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, so she enjoyed video calling him instead. Her neighbour Brian presented her with a framed picture of a newspaper on the day she was born and as Alice was unable to have a birthday party with her friends and neighbours, she handed out cake and prosecco to them to celebrate.
When asking Alice how she felt about turning 100 she said:
"It is just like any other birthday, but it is very special and a great achievement.”
In her spare time, Alice enjoys listening to talking books from her local library and gardening and even enjoyed a bit of DIY and decorating when she was able to.
Joanne Jones, Outreach and Support Service Team Leader at CGA said:
“Alice has been a tenant on The Filberts for 27 years, she is a lovely lady who has made lots of friends on the scheme and enjoys spending time with her friends at coffee mornings. Alice is always very cheerful and would be marking her 100th birthday with a large gathering if we were able to.”
