During conversations with tenants at a community pop-up and Brookfield's Gateway2You session, we became aware of an excessive amount of dog foul on Ambleside Road.
Listening to this feedback, we teamed up with the dog warden service and Blaze Youth Group from Ribbleton Parish to tackle the issue by spreading awareness of responsible pet ownership.
We arranged an action day in July 2024, where we installed a new dog foul bin, in an area where dog waste is commonly found. We were also joined by the dog warden to carry out door knocking with our Tenancy Management Team. Conversations with tenants allowed us to promote responsible pet ownership and highlight to tenants the agencies involved in keeping our communities clean and safe. We also handed out goody bags for dog owners. Each bag included dog poo bags, a bag dispenser and CGA responsible dog owner leaflets.
Blaze Youth Group were keen to get involved by helping us to create posters to put up around the community, reminding people to clean up after their pets.
Since the initiative in 2024, our Environmental Services Team have confirmed that the dog foul bin is emptied every week due to frequent use. Our GreenCare Team have also been able to plant bulbs and flowers in areas previously effected by dog foul.
These outcomes highlight the difference we can make when working together with tenants and partners to create environments that are clean, safe and well-maintained.
