New Gate Improves Safety in Ashton

Written by Community Gateway | Wednesday 04 March 2026

During our Summer Roadshow in Ashton last year, teams from across Community Gateway were outside Savick Library, giving tenants the chance to share their views on how they find living in the area.

At the event, a tenant on Newark Place raised concerns about a communal greenspace behind their home, which is accessible to the public. The area was frequently used as a shortcut and gathering spot, leaving the tenant feeling unsafe.

Taking this feedback on board, we consulted other tenants in the area, who agreed that installing a fence between the bungalows and the greenspace, would improve safety and help them feel more secure in their homes and community.

Our Engagement and Development Teams worked together to install a gate in January this year. The feedback we received from tenants has been overwhelmingly positive, with them sharing that the gates have not only made them feel much safer, but have also improved the overall look of the area and their properties.

This project highlights our commitment to listening to tenants and taking action to create safer and welcoming communities.
