Working with The King's Trust to Improve Local Community

Written by Community Gateway | Wednesday 04 March 2026

During a community pop up in Ashton carried out by our Engagement Team, tenants highlighted a rise in litter in communal green spaces.

We partnered with The Hub at St Bernards and The King's Trust, who tackle youth unemployment to deliver a two-week community project to improve the local area.

The Hub at St Bernards is a valued community space in Ashton, hosting regular coffee mornings, a food market and providing mental health and wellbeing support. Tenants frequently speak about the positive impact The Hub has on their wellbeing.

As part of the project, a group of young people supported by The King’s Trust collaborated to design and create murals around The Hub, celebrating its role at the heart of the community. The artwork reflects the space’s welcoming atmosphere and strong community values.

The partnership also delivered a community litter pick, helping to restore pride in the surrounding green spaces. In total, 10 bags of litter were collected over the course of the project.

One young person involved said:

"I can't believe how much of an improvement the litter pick has made! This project has shown the difference we can make when we come together to look after green spaces!"

The project highlights the impact of partnership working and what can be achieved by working together.
