Support aids for your Home

Support aids for your home

If you or a member of your household, are experiencing difficulties living in your home, it may be possible for Community Gateway to adapt your home to meet your needs.

Minor adaptations

You do not need to provide medical evidence to request a minor adaptation. We do not ask you to make any contribution towards the cost of minor adaptations we agree to complete in your home.

Examples of minor adaptations include:

  • Grab rails
  • Extra bannister rails
  • Keysafes
  • Drop down rails

Major Adaptations

Most major adaptations are requested through a referral by an occupational therapist, however you can contact us directly and we will advise if an occupational therapist referral is required for your request. We will only carry out major adaptations to suitable, fully occupied properties. There is no charge for major adaptations, subject to meeting the criteria for the disabled facilities grant.

Examples of major adaptations include:

  • Level access shower
  • Shower over the bath
  • Stairlift
  • Ramp
  • External handrails

For further information contact the Adaptations team.

Alternatively, if you have a social worker or occupational therapist you can ask them to write to us about your needs and the problems you are having in your home. Once we agree to carry out the work, we will complete it within 20 working days.
