As part of CGA's ongoing commitment to tenant empowerment our Gateway Tenant Committee (GTC) have, over the past few months, undertaken a review of whether the current tenant involvement structure is working effectively. GTC found that the existing structure has contributed a great deal since it was introduced over 10 years ago, but also felt that it was time to introduce some changes to freshen up the approach and, through listening to feedback, ensure that tenants could continue to get involved in a way that suited them best.
To make these changes CGA's Rules need to be updated and our Members are being asked to approve these changes at a Special General Meeting (SGM) being held on Thursday 16th March 2017 at our Head Office, Harbour House.
The new Rules are based on the model set of rules agreed by the National Housing Federation. However, it is important to remember that CGA is different to many housing associations in that our tenants also have the option to be Members, which in turn allows them to be involved in making key decisions that affect how the organisation is run. The new Rules have kept true to this principle and ensure that all the existing principles around community empowerment and tenant involvement have been retained, along with reserving key decisions for our Members to vote on. Other key examples of what makes CGA different is that the Board has a large number of tenants on it, and that the Chair of the Board is also a tenant. All these principles have also been retained.
Hopefully, this gives you a good understanding of the reasons behind the proposed changes to our Rules, and also some comfort that the guiding principles of CGA as a membership-led organisation will be retained. However should you have any further questions please get in touch with our Community Empowerment Team on 0800 953 0213, email us on Get.Involved@communitygateway.co.uk or better still if you are a Member come along to the SGM to hear from our GTC members first hand and use your vote.
Copies of all the documents you'll need for the SGM are available below. If you require them in any other format, please let us know on 0800 953 0213, or email us on Get.Involved@communitygateway.co.uk
