Paying your rent

All Tenants have to pay rent for their home. We depend on you paying your rent on time so that we can pay for repairs and improvements to all our homes, including your own.

Each year the amount of rent you need to pay is reviewed in line with government policy.  We must give you one month's notice in writing, of any rent increase.

When to pay rent

Your rent is charged every Monday.  It is important that you pay your rent by the Friday of each week to make sure your account does not go into arrears.

If you are paid fornightly, 4 weekly or monthly it is important you pay your rent in advance to prevent rent arrears.  If this would cause a problem, please contact the Rent Recovery Team for help and advice.

The CGA sends a rent statement to every tenant at least four times each year.   This allows tenants to keep a record of all payments to their rent account.  If you would like to receive a rent statement more often, please contact the Rent Recovery Team and they will be only too happy to send one out to you.

Rent-free weeks

The Community Gateway Association has four weeks each year when we do not charge you rent.  You will be advised of the exact dates at the start of each rent year.

If your rent account is up to date, there is no need for you to make a payment during these weeks.  However, if your rent account is in arrears, you must make your payments as usual.

If you have a monthly payment plan, the rent free weeks will have been taken into account when calculating your payments.  Please do not change the amount you usually pay or your rent account will go into arrears.

If you are unsure whether you should pay during the 'rent free weeks', please conatct a memeber of our Rent Recovery Team on 0800 953 0213.

Other Charges

Some Tenants will be charged for additional services provided by the Community Gateway Association.  For example there may be a charge for heating, the 'Lifeline' emergency call system or warden support services.  We will let you know if any of these charges apply to you.
